Kevin Ward Steps down as Army HC

What does this mean for our TN natives at West Point? Do Trae and Caleb jump in the portal? Does Jojo decommit and go elsewhere?

 

Personally I'd love to see them all come home and wrestle at Chattanooga..

Right, i figured that much was a given. My question was referring to the kids on the roster and who have committed to go there from TN

Certainly will not speak for team U but I do believe Kevin left things in great shape and they have some really good assistant coaches and Army will continue building off the incredible success that Kevin Ward established!  The Academies  offer so much and is more than just wrestling. The great thing is  Kevin built something special at Army and took them to new heights and I would expect that will not change and these young men will have the chance to AA and attain their goals as well as set themself up for success in life!! 
  
Congrats to Coach Ward and his opportunity to return to his alumni and assist in the building of something special!

Trae cannot portal. Caleb can decide to leave up until his first day back this fall. When a Cadet enters his Cow year (Jr) he is fully committed to the Army.  I can't speak for Caleb or JoJo but most kids who go to WP do not go for a coach, they go for the education and the benefits that come with being from there.  JoJo is free now to change his mind if he wants.  Caleb has a few months if he wants to leave but I do not see that happening with him. As for Trae,  he has one more year and it will be at West Point for sure.

I was wondering how this works. I know the Military Academies have different NCAA rules because if your head coach leaves you have a 30 day window to enter the portal.

Cadets are free to leave at any time up until they arrive back for their Jr year. They are bound to the same NCAA rules as any other school with the only difference being that every Cadet is on a "full ride".  Fun fact,  Academies were the first schools to pay athletes.  All Cadets get a monthly pay check.

Just a hunch but Scott Green will be offered and take the job.  Scott has relationships all over the country and has been doing most of the recruiting.

Jumping from Army to Chattanooga, and I hate to use a boat reference here, would be the equivalent of having your boat run into some choppy water and deciding to board the Titanic as it was steaming towards the iceberg.

Army has a better competition in the room, a better schedule, and is not worried about roster limits or NIL. If one of those kids could pick up a big bag somewhere, there might be a discussion. Army qualified 7 last year and had another qualifier from a previous year on the roster.

Notably I haven’t kept up with Chattanooga, but did see them in action last year against the Citadel. It was not a good showing. Citadel was down over the last few years but have found a way to start making gains against their SOCON opponents. Chattanooga has been stagnant or regressed.
