Monday night I went to see the ninth grade boys city championship game at Mcgavock vs. Martin Luther King.It had been postponed twice because of MLK having varsity games. The players, coaches, and fans of Mcgavock were fired up for the game, but MLK did not show . Overhearing officals commenting, I was shocked to learn the system's athlectic director had spoken to the MLK administration and expected their team to play the game. Who is in charge in metro, both teams were denied the opportunity to compete on the floor for the championship, although Mcg. was awarded the trophy it did not satisfy the players.This incident shows the public can not trust the system and gives reason to look elsewhere to provide their children with a proper education.

Congratulations to Coach Bubba Spears on his second city championship in three years. You are still my hero. Thanks for taking over the tradition. That makes three of the last four city champs at McGavock. Is the hay still in the barn?
