In Katie Shelton of Beech HS's case, play a little AAU basketball. Multi-sport players the caliber of Miss Shelton can get scholarships in more than one sport. The question is what sport is she best at? Playing more than one sport is fun, but can a person be the best they can be at any one sport splitting playing time? I think the main thing is to be happy.
