HeavyEagle,

I think if Shular had stayed his Senior year, that would have made a difference in his pro career.

I'm thankful that Peyton stayed. He was a great QB, tremendous leader, and an all around wonderful person.

Muffin,

I agree. I don't think Kelly can be compared to the likes of Montana, etc. If he is that good, he would be in the NFL.

You guys must be young! What about Condredge and Jimmy Streeter and even a little known backup by the name of Darrell Dickey who as the QB helped beat the Caines 35 to 7! The greatest game I ever had the pleasure of attending! Heck I even liked Tony Robinson, just wished he could have kept his head on straight!

smokeyvol1,

I found the below article stating that Tennessee, in 1939 was the last team, but I also read on the same website that Southern Cal went undefeated and unscored also that same year.

http://www.2cuz.com/features/sechistory.html

In 1939 Tennessee became the last team in major college football to go undefeated, untied and unscored on. Regrettably for the Vols, their perfect season went sour in the Rose Bowl when they had the tables turned on them by the Southern Cal Trojans with a 14-0 loss in Pasadena.

www.2cuz.com (click on History, then Season Recap, then 1939):

For the second straight year a team that went through the regular season undefeated, untied and unscored upon fell to Southern Cal in the Rose Bowl. This time, the 4th-ranked Trojans turned the tables on No.2 Tennessee, shutting the Vols out, 14–0, to snap a 23–game winning streak.

Is this correct, or was there another team later on that went unscored upon?

I was young and impressionable. Ha-Ha!

I was too young to go to Notre Dame games since it was a three hour drive, or so, from Indy. But there's nothing to compare to a UT football game. I was bitten the first time I saw the Pride of the Southland Band enter the stadium.
