Oakland players were told today that Coach Euverard was leaving to go to Jeff County. Good luck to him. He is a great coach, but more importantly a great person. My son played for him and sports a champ ring. We are saddened at Oakland , but happy for Coach U and his family. I know that Marty probably spent much time agonizing over this. I am certain that this is the place that GOD needs him to be.

Marty was a stellar football player at a school in East Tennessee back in the day. He won a full ride at MTSU and I think was an All American. His Dad still lives in East TN and Marty has always wanted to get back up that way. Marty has always allowed kids to play more than one sport. Oakland has won several state championships in baseball, and many players also played football. Our star tailback also played basketball.

I assume that Marty will try to see what athletes are at Jeff Cty before deciding about to throw or not to throw. He tried to take 2 on our staff with him, but they both remained at Oakland. So I don't know who he has in mind.

He runs out of a Base I formation....Or he did at oakland. He is a very very good coach, and yall are lucky to be gettin him. as far as 2 sport athletes, thats fine. We had several at oakland while i was there. He understands that. East Tenn. Connection...no clue...

As for the freshman coach...he is a new one...only been there 3 years i believe. Sad sad day for oakland when that happened

Actually the Freshman coach has only been there a yr and a half. they ran a background check and there was no indication that there was a problem of that nature. I think it was one of those crazy mid life things. he admitted to all and never smeared the girl's name. he actually loves her and wants to marry her. There is more of that stuff in high schools than you think.

    • Lee would have been a good choice, also.  I'm sure Benny was involved with the decision.
    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
