There are More Drivers Then Jr.

With the Dale Jr's intentional spin at Bristol it showed me something. On the way home from the race Sunday, I was listening to PRN's post race show where fans call in to give views and ask questions about that race. In a 1 hour show, almost every call was about Dale Jr.. It was around 5 out of 6. It wasnt about Kurt Busch's victory and pit stratagey(sp?). Or the 140 lap green flag run that does not happen hardly all at Bristol, McMurray and Kenseth's post race deal, Wimmer and Stewart's rough driving penalites, Jeff Gordon making a mistake on a green flag stop to take himself out of the race, Rusty's heartbreaking loss, or even the great 3 lap shootout at the end. What was it about, Jr. spinning. Out of those FEW story lines, I listed only one was talked about. Doug Rice, cohost of the show, mentioned this and I agree with him 100%. If Brian Vickers, Kevin Lepage, or even Joe Nemecheck would have done it, it would not have been mentioned. There are more drivers out there then the #8. I like Jr. but he is not the only one out there. There are some great stories out there, but all are overshadowed by Jr.. Look around past Jr. and maybe you will find someone better then Jr. Jr. is not the classiest act or the least classiest, nor is he the best driver or worst driver. He is just 1 of 43. Let's talk about the whole race instead of one driver next time!

I agree there are more drivers than Dale Earnhardt, Jr. But this is a trend with all sports they get on someones bandwagon and wear it out, for the longest everything from Nascar war Jeff Gordon, I got so sick of that I almost quit watching and going to the races. Now it's Jr., Some drivers could lead every lap and win three in a row and wouldn't even get interviewed in victory lane.

It makes me wonder how they pick cars /drivers for the footage as the race is coming on. I feel they should show every driver at some time during the year but it is the same 5-6 that is in every piece of footage.

I have to agree with the general sentiment. I like Junior fine. He my son's favorite, but I think my son is guilty of what most fans are....when Dale, Sr. was killed, everyone automatically swithched their loyalty to Dale's son. Junior had done little to win such a fan base.

On another note, how is Junior Dale, Jr. Isn't Kerry older? Kerry looks MUCH more like Dale, Sr. than Junior does. I thought the title of junior went to the first born son. I'm all mixed up.

    • Lee would have been a good choice, also.  I'm sure Benny was involved with the decision.
    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
