I would think your personnel and how you match up to your opponent would dictate alot but if your just trying to teach the kids and not worried about the game then i would go full court man to man, up in their shirt all night long, but thats just me, i'm sure there are different opinions on it. thumb

Like devil said it depends on the team you have and what you have to work with. Also who you are playing against. I personally like to teach kids man at this level. This will help them as they get ready for H.S. Many coaches play zone beacause its easier for them to teach, than man principles. I feel if you dont teach man also you are holding them back. Now I am not saying if you play zone you are a bad coach, just be sure to teach them man as well. Most middle school kids are not good shooters. They like to drive to the basket. Because of this I think zone is probably more effective. I hope that helps but again thats just my view. thumb

I definately agree with you bigA, there are alot of programs that don't teach man in the middle schools just because there aren't enough "athletes" on the team, especially when you're dealing with small, country, middle schools. What i do is teach a variety of defenses. What i would suggest is start out by going with a "match-up" zone this is very similiar to a man to man but it still protects your weaker players somewhat, then once they have grasped that i would gradually get them into a man to man. If they have never played it before it will take patience and time but they will eventually catch on and will be better players at the next level because a coach took the time to teach them the right way when they were young! hope this helps... df

Good thoughts Devilfanatic. Teaching the basic man to man principles are so important for the growth of young players. Everyone has there own way to do it and thats okay, just as long as the kids have a basic understanding of it. Like Devil does. He said he goes from match up into a teaching of man. Every coach has to find out the best way for them to teach his kids and it comes from learning what you like and dont like

    • Yep..could possibly have 3 teams ranked in top ten in the same four team district.
    • He had an opportunity to be the OC at TC without final say in the offensive gameplan. How does that work? Smh. Head Coaches are public figures regardless of the community size, and yes there are some out there, it’s irrelevant and not fair to them to name them on here. Also why is said “head coach” the head coach of the MS baseball program to begin with? Oh because no one wants it. As for the Lebanon question, I know what I’ve been told so just going off here say, some of the boosters were not happy with his roster decisions and wanted him out. Although he lead them to 20+ wins in multiple seasons
    • A head coach in the school system? No I dont think so. Head coaches are public figures in small communities. Not trying to slander, but this is an actual question. Do you know why he was forced to resign at Lebanon? This was his second chance.  He already left trousdale once and had an opportunity to come back a couple of years ago but spoiled that.
    • Are you perfect? Nope no one is, at the end of the day there are several teachers/coaches and even some in the Trousdale County school system that have DUI’s on their record. You’re correct on it being a bad mistake and it unfortunately could have ended horribly. While you consider the consequences minimal, I can assure you they are not. Ultimately I hope and have faith that he will learn from it and use it to better himself.
