The Greatest Football TN Player All-Time?

From what I hear, Doug Atkins was a stud. My favorite though would be Fernando Bryant from Riverdale. I believe he was an All-American at Riverdale his senior year (1994). He went on to start at Alabama for 4 years and then started every year in the pros for the Jacksonville Jaguars. This season is plays for the Detroit Lions.

I think you have to mention Chad Clifton form Westview, he has been protecting Brett Favre's back side since he got in the NFL, not to mention being of UT's all time best O-linemen.

Chad was one of my favorite linemen when he played at UT. Do remember that cheap shot that Warren Sapp took on him a few years ago?

Al Wilson is one of those people you wouldn't like to see in a dark alley if you didn't know who he is. He's got those wrinkles on his forehead that make him look so mean and intimidating. oooooh, I get chills just thinking about how hard he hits people.

I wish Chad Clifton would get blind side shot at Warren Sapp some day. That would be awsome, and I bet Sapp would be hurting more than clifton was.

First I would have to say Jason Witten (Elizabethton). second I would have to say Andy Kelly (Rhea County). Never made it pro but was a key part to the Vols and alos the arena team that use to be in Nashville

Witten has potential to be great if he stays healthy. One of my favorite current NFL players!

 

Al wilson is a tough dude! Love the intensity and leadership he brings to the game!

 

Andy Kelly was great in high school and college, nice guy too(went to college with him). Some better quarterbacks from Tennessee are Bobby Dodd(Kingsport), Steve Spurrier(Johnson City), Steve Sloan(Cleveland), Stan Fritts(Oak Ridge), Kenton Evans(Memphis),Joey Clinkscales(Knoxville),Bill Wade(Nashville),Darrell Crawford(Kingsport) and Eric Locke(Murfreesboro).

 

Who the heck is Andrew Beck? I'm from Kingsport and never heard of him! Sam Haynie(ETSU), Ralph Nelson (Tennessee) and Anthony Nelson (Virginia Tech) are the best lineman Sullivan South have produced. Old Sullivan High( consolidated into Sullivan South) produced two great lineman who went to ETSU: All-American End Hal Morrison(best non D-B player from Kingsport area) and Guard Wayne Peters.

Some great memories are brought back to me by many of the names mentioned in this thread so far.

 

Let me add a couple. Tim Priest (Huntingdon, TN), DB at Tennessee in the late 60's. All SEC, All American his senior season. Now on the broadcast team for the Vol network. Don McLeary (Jackson Northside), RB in the late 60's at Tennessee. All American. Now a state senator in W. TN. These two were for real! I played against them both in HS and they were two of the best I faced.

 

Doug Atkins was the man!!! Along with Reggie White!!!
