I bet Phil Fulmer is kicking himself over this one. He got greedy and beat Florida one too many times. You would think he'd be happy with every other year and that way Zook would stay around. Oh well, we all knew this would happen. He probably never even unpacked all of his stuff so it shouldn't take long to move out. Maybe they'll give Ingle his starting job back.

One can only hope that Steve has more sense than to come back to Florida. Steve has had the best connections in the country for recruiting high school athletes. His years at Florida are bigger than life and that came at a big price in time and coaching staff. To try and put that back together again is a bigger task than fans realize. It was not just Steve but his web of contacts and staff that got him where he was on top.

 

Of course to most fans, they believe with Steve, anything is possible and the good times will come immediately. Steve made a bad decision to go to the Redskins and I suspect he will make a bad decision again. It won't be the same animal that he would come back to.

 

He has more to gain by going to another university willing to turn their program around with a huge investment in Steve. He will not have to produce as much championships, receive the same money and not have to work as hard at it. The guy is older and that plays a big part. IF he goes back to Florida and fails.............failure is defined by four losses or more in a regular season, Steve's legacy will be at risk much like Paterno's sad state of affairs or lack of a mental state, whichever you prefer. The smart move is to go to another school like Lou Holtz did where a winning season is great and a championship run is expected but not at all costs. thumb

Spurrier Declines UF Job

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Former Florida Gators coach Steve Spurrier says he will not return to the sidelines at the University of Florida.

 

Spurrier removed his name from consideration Thursday to replace current head coach Ron Zook, who was fired last week after the latest in a series of embarrassing losses. Zook replaced Spurrier after the 2001 season when Spurrier left to coach the Washington Redskins.

 

"I feel it is time to clear the air and support Athletic Director Jeremy Foley and President Bernie Machen as they search for the best coach available to lead the Gators back to the top of the Southeastern Conference. Go Gators," Spurrier said in a statement.

 

Spurrier phoned Foley Thursday morning to say he wants to pursue other challenges.

 

"When I departed three years ago there were several reasons why I believed it was time to move on. Other than simply wanting to coach in the NFL someday, I also believed that 12 years at Florida was probably long enough. Many people in football believe that around 10-12 years in the same job is about the maximum time a coach should stay," he said.

 

The Gators won six Southeastern Conference championships and the 1996 national title under Spurrier.

 

"As the Gator coach I simply believed I'd had my day in the sun and I've had my nights in the domes, the Georgia Dome and the Superdome, where we had five championship celebrations," he said.

 

Spurrier said Foley called him several times this week to set up a meeting after the season with him and Machen. Spurrier said he has not been offered nor is he searching for a coaching job with another football team.

 

Spurrier resigned from the Redskins after last season. :)

Urban Meyer ain't the man for Florida...he'll be gone in a couple of years when Zook's recruits have graduated...

 

He's followed that pattern at Bowling Green and Utah...makes sense to figure he'll do that at UF...

but maybe just maybe...when we are winning a game, we put the ball in the hands of our playmaker...ex. UT...when Chris Leak didnt throw on the last 3 downs of the game to get the first...

      QUICK UPDATE -  First, I see a lot of wrestling names that I recognize on that GoFundMe.  THANK YOU so much for helping this family.   After the long surgery on Sunday morning to repair his neck, Jacob suffered a collapsed lung.  Sometimes this happens after long surgeries.  They had to put him on a ventilator to get his breathing back on track.  He came off the vent on Monday morning and they put a BIPAP on him to help control his breathing.  As of today, Thursday, the BIPAP came off and he is breathing well on his own.  He is working towards drinking a glass of water and hopefully eating some solid food at some point in the near future. Jacob can "feel" when someone touches his legs, but there is still no movement.  His parents are beginning to prepare for him to be moved to the Shepherd Center in the next few days.  He will be there in Atlanta for 30-45 days.  Im sure he will receive excellent treatment. Please continue to pray for healing for him and if you are so moved, please contribute to the gofundme link above to help in any way you can.  The go fund me is doing well, but this is going to be a very long road for these guys Im afraid..
