Bumbalough and Skinner

I know most of the Cross Country geeks (and I mean that in the nicest possible way!) are posting like crazy over on Dyestat.com about this, but didn't want to leave unmentioned on CoachT that Andrew Bumbalough of Brentwod Academy won the FootLocker South Regional Cross Country race in North Carolina last Saturday. He broke the existing course record (previously held by Olympian Alan Webb) by 11 seconds, and established himself as the favorite going into the National Championship December 11 in San Diego.

Jill Skinner of Brentwood High finished second in the girls' race in a major surprise. She qualified for San Diego as well. Congratulations to these two outstanding runners. Now go represent!

Oh, but a lot of those geeks aren't being very civil

There seem to be some slightly agitated folks from Texas who thought McPherson had the South and maybe the national race in the bag. Surprise.

Jill's jump is extraordinary. I mean, she's been great around here for some time, but that jump was absolutely insane. Coach Roberts of Knox West had her three mile split at 16:55. I don't care how fast McAlpine is (I've run it twice, I admit it is extremely quick), that is just crazy. We all knew Bumbi was 14 flat caliber after state, but seeing Jill's time made my head explode.

Bumbi has a legit shot to win it. The majority (or maybe the plurality) at this point that have any idea who is actually racing favor Andrew to win a close race in San Diego on an obviously more difficult course. Jill has a definite shot at top ten, meaning her collegiate stock is rising as quickly as any senior xc female in the US right now.

LJ, we'll be in the midstate meeting while the national race is going on. I wonder if we'll get cell phone updates from any of BA's people there? As if any of the BA people will actually go the meeting...I'm sure they'll flock to San Diego, they deserve to!

Coach, I believe that Fox Sports Net is telecasting both races in San Diego. I read that on the FL website.

BTW...I'm a track & field "geek" from way back, so I know whereof I speak!! :)
