It isn't about winning or losing, but I hate to lose. I won't settle for a tie, and I am not satisfied with 100%. To play, you have to sacrifice everything, your body, time, sweat, blood, and tears, everything... for my team I have been that player with tears in my eyes walking out to receive the second place trophy and clapping as the other team receives the first place one. I know what it is like to lose, to win, to want to quit, to want to cry, to not want to get up. I know what it is like to hear the yells for you. I know what it is like to feel the pressure of everyone on your shoulders, and I know what it is like to choke under that pressure. I know what it means to be an athlete, and that is why I play.

 

That's the perfect description of every true athlete, who isn't just in it for fun, but also to win. And it's the reason why there will be no life after sports for me, because sports will never end in my life.

that's a very good point. I never thought of life itself being a sport.

.............................................................................................................................. everyone that has played sports garners the values(character,learning what it takes to win(hard ,nose to the grindstone and never ever give up),how to lose with grace and sportsmanship only to rise to fight again, team play learning to lean on and be leaned on, being the best you can to help !! ..no life after sports is a Fact..the values you gain from sports makes better citizens and individuals of all that have competed..never giving up, knowing you must rise again after defeat and accept winning with gratitude and humility,most of all the character you become from playing never dies within you...thats what brings us out every Friday night,because the desire never leaves you..and thats what life is too in..we learn to how to live from playing sports :thumb:

I really think playing sports is very important for life after sports in the work world. Not many situations could prepare you better for the challenges and adversity you will face in the work world than similar challenges and adversity you face on the field/court/diamond as an athlete. Sports produces all of the great employees of the world, it is the great teacher of life.

For this thread i have to be specific...life after sports?

 

After the season...time to get ready for the next.

 

After high school...you either keep playing or wish you were still playing, you will always want to be playing...you might get burnt out, but trust me...the fire will be relit at some point.

 

After you stop playing organized sports...you play sundays at your local park.

 

After the park...you play with your son or daughter in your backyard.

 

After the backyard...you watch your kids go though the same stages.

 

and after that you just sit back and remember the good ole' days!

 

 

to some people, sports is life

to others, competing is life

to me, life is life....i just fill it with the competition of sports!!

      The only thing that was said at half time of the 45-0 game was Coach Story, he said: "I know y'all have been out there a lot, but kick-off team, y'all need to get down there faster!" Then he and the other coaches proceeded to go into the coaches office and we all went nuts!  It was the only time I can ever remember coaches not saying anything at half time. Definitely a great memory!!!

      Boyd could actually be a grade below what he is now, but his parents didn't see the need to "redshirt" him like the other city school down the road would have pushed for....

      When Danny was a senior he was the quarterback on the 82 team and also the placeholder on extra points. At the end of the game Heritage scored a touchdown with very little time left and went ahead 9-0. On the following extra point Danny rose up and threw a perfect pass to one of his receivers which made it 11-0 and Heritage's first win against Maryville since the series started in 77. Maryville fans were highly ticked off because they felt like it was rubbing salt in the wound. The following year when both teams met again at Maryville  the Rebels ran away with the game and after the first couple of touchdowns they went for two points after each score for a pay back and the score was 45-0 at halftime. The following Monday Bob Gilbert the sports eiditor for the local paper bashed Maryville in an article called the Humilation of Teenagers and tore into Maryville even though he was a graduate of the school. Those were the good ole days when Heritage had decent teams and the rivalry between them and Maryville was a fun event to see.
