This is a much more complex issue than has been talked about in the press!

Boots is a great football coach and one that will always be remembered as THE FOOTBALL COACH at MTSU! He moved up to A.D. when they brought in the new coach and moved up to DI-A. He has been a mentor and coach to hundreds of coaches across the state and he will be missed.

MTSU wants to take their athletic program to a place that Boots isn't an expert in. "Old school" administrators are great for fundraising from alumni, etc but not if you want run a program into a different arena. I'm not saying someone else will do a better job, I just think MTSU wants to bring in some new blood that can impress the "pockets" of a new Murfreesboro.

McPhee gave him the option of going out quietly, but boots decided to try to play the pity card and then have the audacity(or stupidity) to claim that this was a conspiracy theory against. boots buried his own grave

Would he still be at the school if he would have fired Coach Mac?

Boots had bigger problems that mccollum's performance as a coach. boots often had this defeatist attitude, which isnt good for a 1-A program that is trying to compete with the big boys. i think even boots biggest supporters will shyly admit that they are glad to see him gone.

as for hiring a AD though, i would love to see us go after Andy Geiger of Ohio St. geiger is retiring in a few months and was a pretty good athletic director for tOSU and i think he would be a good fit at middle, a guy that could make middle a top notch athletic program

    • Yep..could possibly have 3 teams ranked in top ten in the same four team district.
    • He had an opportunity to be the OC at TC without final say in the offensive gameplan. How does that work? Smh. Head Coaches are public figures regardless of the community size, and yes there are some out there, it’s irrelevant and not fair to them to name them on here. Also why is said “head coach” the head coach of the MS baseball program to begin with? Oh because no one wants it. As for the Lebanon question, I know what I’ve been told so just going off here say, some of the boosters were not happy with his roster decisions and wanted him out. Although he lead them to 20+ wins in multiple seasons
    • A head coach in the school system? No I dont think so. Head coaches are public figures in small communities. Not trying to slander, but this is an actual question. Do you know why he was forced to resign at Lebanon? This was his second chance.  He already left trousdale once and had an opportunity to come back a couple of years ago but spoiled that.
    • Are you perfect? Nope no one is, at the end of the day there are several teachers/coaches and even some in the Trousdale County school system that have DUI’s on their record. You’re correct on it being a bad mistake and it unfortunately could have ended horribly. While you consider the consequences minimal, I can assure you they are not. Ultimately I hope and have faith that he will learn from it and use it to better himself.
