SAN JOSE — Monterey County wrestlers produced two section champions, eight state qualifiers and Palma finished second overall at Saturday”s Central Coast Section Wrestling Championships at Independence High in San Jose.

Carmel”s Kodiak Sauer won the 182-pound weight class for his CCS title, while Seaside”s Jonathan Tuiolosega bested the 285-pound division to earn his individual section crown.

The Chieftains tallied 129 points to earn runner-up status, finishing behind only 10-time section champion Gilroy, which amassed 241 team points. Other county teams placing at CCS were: Alisal in 11th place; King City in 13th; Seaside in 22nd; North Salinas 23rd; Carmel 25th; Monterey 31st; Pacific Grove 40th; and Salinas 41st.

Palma”s Hunter Rehbein (second, 106s), Ryan Sarmiento (second, 182s) and Hildelv Manzur (285s); King City”s Luis Quintero (second, 145s); and Alisal”s Jovan Villalobos (second, 152s) and Oscar Mendez (third, 160s) all qualified for the CIF State Wrestling Championships in Bakersfield.

Others who placed in CCS were: North Salinas” Gabriel Espino (fifth, 106s); Gonzales” Alfred Salas (fourth, 113s); King City”s Luis Cruz (sixth, 113s); North County”s Carlos Anaya (sixth, 120s); Soledad”s Michael Meraz (fourth, 160s); Monterey”s Jacob Golden (sixth, 170s); and Palma”s Tyler Escoto (fourth, 220s).
