Bobcat golfers have finished their tryouts and hit the ground running, with a J.V. meet on Thursday, Aug. 12. Jim Duell, is back coaching this year for his fifth season as head coach for the boys and is joined by assistant coach Tony Paglia, who returns for his second year as assistant.

The team had two days of “try-outs” on Monday and Tuesday where all boys interested in playing on the team had to participate in two rounds of golf. To qualify for the team, they had to score a 60 or less on the front 9, with equal success on the back 9. All boys, who are able to make the team, will be on the team. The five boys playing the best golf prior to every tournament will represent to the Bobcats each week.

“The golf season is so early and so quick, that at this point the preparation and training is done. It’s now about playing the game and playing it well,” said Duell.

The Bobcats have three returning seniors. Duell says that the team and each individual player have some lofty goals for the season. One goal is to get as many Bobcats to the state tournament this year. The Bobcats will be hosting the regional tournament in Estes Park, where Duell hopes the Bobcats can take advantage of and get more of qualified for state.

“We’ve got the potential of doing very well this year,” said Duell.

The Bobcats start their tournaments right away, traveling to Greeley next week. You can find the boys at the Estes Park 18-Hole Golf Course practicing and playing Mondays through Fridays throughout their season.
