Local: Creekside girls improve to .500 in basketball

Boys basketball

The Creekside girls basketball team improved to 7-7 with a 51-29 win over Largo in the Northside Christian Mustang Invitational in St. Petersburg.

No player hit double figures for the Knights, as they used a balanced attack to reach .500 on the season.

Lindsay Stevens scored nine points. Jeanie Verderese and Nicole Tufano tallied eight points apiece and Ashleigh Taylor tacked on seven.

Covington (Va.) 62, St. Joseph 53

St. Joseph opened the Covington KSA Preseason Christmas tournament with a loss.

Heather Volk led the Flashes with 17 points.

Nicole Sarris followed with 13 points and Angie Accorti and Jackie George each grabbed six rebounds. The Flashes fell to 5-4.

Boys basketball

Vernon Pinkney scored 26 points, but it wasn't enough as Beacon of Hope fell 63-54 to John Paul II Catholic. Daniel Holleman added 16 points and six rebounds.

Cori Pinkney chipped in with eight points, six assists and five rebounds.

Women's College basketball

The Flagler College women's basketball team fell to 1-9 with a 71-44 loss to West Florida on Monday.

Treva Mason led the Saints with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Jen Knurek added eight points, nine rebounds and five assists, while Shakia Roche collected nine points.
