Local: Half-court shot wins game for Beacon of Hope basketball squad

Vernon Pinkney's half-court shot at the buzzer proved the winning basket as Beacon of Hope Christian stunned Cornerstone Christian 51-49 in boys basketball on Tuesday night.

Cornerstone had just taken a 49-48 lead with 1.5 seconds before Pinkney's dramatic shot. He finished with 37 points and nine rebounds. Joseph Newton added nine rebounds and four assists. Beacon is now 4-5.

Brian Johnson had 19 points but Creekside couldn't overcome a rough second quarter in a 58-52 loss to Pinellas Park in boys basketball on Tuesday night.

Jujuan Gordon followed with 13 points for the Knights (6-2). Toby Mbdugha added 10.

West Nassau 60, Menendez 54: Anthony Gomez had 14 points and 11 rebounds in the Falcons' loss to the Warriors.

Dee Flagler (13 points) and Josh Pagliei (seven points) followed for Menendez (3-5). The Falcons will face Esprit de Corps on Thursday.

Girls basketball

Cassidy Bailey had 26 points and Heather Volk tacked on 18 as St. Joseph hammered Faith Christian 67-10. Jackie George added eight rebounds and five steals for the Flashes (6-4).

Upperman (Tenn.) 43, Creekside 25: Lindsay Stevens had seven points for the Knights in a loss. Creekside (7-8) couldn't overcome a rough start where it was outscored 25-7 in the first half.
