Class 3A

Ponte Vedra (18-4-3) at Stanton (20-2-1), 7 p.m.

Winner gets: Winner of Choctawhatchee-Pensacola matchup Tuesday in the regional finals

Road here: Ponte Vedra d. Paxon 4-1; Stanton d. Creekside 1-0 in OT

Players to watch: Ponte Vedra, F Brooke Sharp, jr.; Stanton F Tabatha Raskiewicz, fr.

Glance: The Sharks have a good shot to make it eight straight years a St. Johns County team will play for a regional title. Ponte Vedra coach Dave Silverberg is undefeated in that round and that includes last season, when the team advanced to the state semifinals before falling to Merritt Island.

Ponte Vedra may have been gearing up for a rematch with county rival Creekside, but the Knights dropped a 1-0 overtime game in the final minutes to Stanton. The Blue Devils are led by a core of young talented players. Raskiewicz scored the goal that ended Creekside's season on a free kick and has 29 on the year. For the Sharks, they have proved they can win games on both sides. They scored four goals in the quarterfinals against Paxon, but have shown a tendency to outlast teams in 1-0 wins. This could turn out to be one of those nights.
