DAVENPORT — Jude Jaques’ 25 points led third-seed Ridge Community to a 73-58 win over sixth seed Celebration Tuesday in their 7A District 6 boys basketball tournament quarterfinal at the Ridge Community High School campus.

Jaques scored nine points in the second period as the Bolts had two 8-0 runs in the quarter, stretching their lead to as many as 18 before leading by 16 (35-19) at the half.

He then added 12 points in the third quarter as the Bolts outscored the Storm 28-12 and extended their lead to 27 points, 58-31, their largest lead of the game.

“Overall it was a really good win for us,” said Smith. “We did not play for a week because of Covid and we were concerned about that. But it may have actually helped us to have some time off, because we had played several games in a short period of time. I think our legs were really good tonight, and so our defense was good tonight.”

In addition to Jaques’ performance, Smith was happy with the play of Amon Moore (14 points) and Trevon Coleman (nine points). Deion Ricks also scored in double figures with 10 points.

In the fourth quarter, Ridge Community head coach Frank Smith then went deep into his bench to give his starters some rest with No. 2 seed Osceola up next. The Bolts (13-4) defeated the Kowboys, 59-55, on Jan. 21 at home. Smith said Osceola was without one or two starters in that game.

The Bolts played without 6-foot-5 senior Davyion Smith, who was placed under quarantine. Smith will be out all week and but will be available if the Bolts make the playoffs.
