The championship meet for the Florida High School Athletic Association’s new girls weightlifting classification will be contested Saturday at St. Cloud High School.

The FHSAA expanded the sport from two divisions to three this year, with the state’s largest schools by enrollment moving into the new Class 3A.

That includes Dr. Phillips, which again has some of the strongest lifters in the Orlando area. The Panthers lineup includes senior Zamora St. Cyr, who is the top seed in the 139-pound weight class based on her regional performance. She bench pressed 170 pounds and hoisted the same weight overhead in the clean and jerk for a 340 total.

Hagerty senior Olivia Lipari is another favorite. She led qualifiers in the 129 weight class with a 335 pounds region total, followed by Hannah Yilmaz Rodriguez (330) of Tohopekaliga.

Winter Springs, which placed third at state last season, remained in 2A and will compete in that championship meet Saturday at Suwannee High School of North Florida, which is also hosting the 1A meet Friday.

The Bears leading qualifiers were Jillian Vinci, Lindsay Corazzini, Madison Gomrad and U’nitee Brown.

Vinci was the leading region qualifier in the 101 weight class with a 280 total.

Saturday’s 3A competition begins at 9:30 a.m. for the lighter weight classes in the first of two sessions at St. Cloud.

Tickets are $9 per session if purchased online in advance via GoFan.co (fhsaa as search term) and $12 per session Saturday. Parking is $10 (cash) per vehicle.

Face coverings are required when physical distancing is not possible. Participants won’t be required to wear a face covering while on their lift platform.
