Thirteen student-athletes are on the ballot for TCPalm's Athlete of the Week for Feb. 22-27. 

Nominees are derived from scores and stats emailed in by area coaches during the week. Voting begins at noon each Monday and closes at noon Thursday.

Coaches can email scores to TCsports@tcpalm.com. The deadline for each night’s results is 10:30 p.m. Voting is restricted to once per device an hour.

Last week, Vero Beach's Jake Nolan was voted TCPalm Athlete of the Week, garnering over 6,500 votes after firing a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts in a 2-0 victory against Sebastian River on Feb. 18.

Boys Basketball

Ryan Davis, Martin County: Fired on all cylinders scoring 27 points in the Tigers’ 70-50 victory over Dillard in the 6A regional semifinal on Feb. 23 and added 17 points in Martin County’s 62-60 loss in the regional final on Feb. 26 to Mater Charter Academy.

Girls Basketball

Christen McCann, Lincoln Park Academy: In the biggest game of her standout career, McCann carried the Greyhounds to a 4A state semifinal win with 34 points in a 48-37 victory over American Heritage on Feb. 25 in the program’s first ever trip to the Final Four. The Yale signee finished her career with 12 points in an 84-30 defeat to Lake Highland Prep on Feb. 27.

Boys Soccer

Reed Sternberg, St. Edward’s: In a wild 2A regional final against Foundation Academy on Feb. 23, Sternberg netted a hat trick in the final 21 minutes to help St. Edward’s reach their first state semifinal with a 6-4 victory. Sternberg’s header with nine minutes remaining was the go-ahead goal as the Pirates would eventually fall 4-0 on Feb. 26 to St. John’s Country Day in the state semifinal.

Girls Soccer

Peyton Fitzherbert, Martin County: Continued her outstanding postseason performance by scoring two goals in the first 10 minutes of the Tigers’ 7-2 road win over George Jenkins on Feb. 23 to help Martin County advance to its first state semifinal in program history. Fitzherbert scored five playoff goals as Martin County was knocked out in the 6A state semifinal by Lourdes Academy 4-0 on Feb. 26.

Wrestling

Kyle Grey, Lincoln Park Academy: At the Region 4-1A championship on Feb. 25-26, Grey emerged from a competitive 170-pound class and scored a pin in the third period over Somerset Academy's Danny Diaz to take home the title for the Greyhounds.

J.T. Apicella, Fort Pierce Central: In a battle against Treasure Coast's Lucas Moreno for the title at 152 pounds during the Region 3-3A championship on Feb. 25-26, Apicella outlasted Moreno to earn a 3-1 decision as part of the Cobras' team championship.

Rafael Camarena, Sebastian River: Going head-to-head with Port St. Lucie's Gervais Desire in the title match at 195 pounds during the Region 2-4A championship on Feb. 25-26, Camarena scored a sudden victory with a takedown with 30 seconds remaining in the first overtime period to earn the championship for the Sharks.

Baseball

Jeffrey Gonzalez, Treasure Coast: In two Titans victories, Gonzalez went 5-for-7 with six RBI and five runs scored. On Feb. 23 against Centennial, he had a double as part of a 1-for-3 game in a 11-5 victory and on Feb. 25, he went a perfect 4-for-4 with a home run in a 19-4 win over Port St. Lucie.

Softball

Katie Kidwell, South Fork: Fired a complete game, striking out nine and allowing a lone earned run in the Bulldogs’ 5-3 win in nine innings over rival Martin County on Feb. 23

Boys Tennis

Sebastian Marquez, Port St. Lucie: At No. 3 singles, Marquez defeated Fort Pierce Westwood’s George Rolle 8-4 and teamed with James White at No. 2 doubles to score an 8-6 victory to earn two of his team’s points in a 4-3 Jaguar win on Feb. 25.

Girls Tennis

Sarah Schoope, Jensen Beach: At No. 1 singles, Schoope won 6-3, 6-2 over Martin County’s Victoria Ponsoldt and teamed with Sabine Rudolph at No. 1 doubles to win their match 8-5 in the Falcons’ 5-2 victory on Feb. 23.

Boys Lacrosse

Tanner Lenhardt, Vero Beach: Scored four goals and assisted on another in a 16-3 win over South Fork on Feb. 23 and added five goals to lead the way for the Fighting Indians in a 15-7 victory over Jensen Beach on Feb. 25.

Girls Lacrosse

Emma Elliot, Jensen Beach: Scored four goals and added an assist to lead the Falcons past The Pine School 16-11 on Feb. 24.
