Prep Roundup: Falcons earn Top-3 finish at NACA tourney

The HEART Home School girls and boys basketball teams earned top-3 finishes in their respective divisions at the NACA tournament in Dayton, Tenn.

The girls reached Friday’s Division 6 final and fell to Bradley, 49-38, to finish as runner-up.

Brianna Garcia (15 points), Abbey Keister (6 points) and Kelsey Bowen (6 points) paced the Falcons, who finished their season 19-8.

HEART’s boys team defeated FC Boyd Christian School, 46-45, in overtime on Friday morning to earn third place in Division 7.

Mike Lusher (20 points, 6 rebounds), Josh King (8 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists) and Ryan Warner (9 points, 2 steals) paced the Falcons, who finished their season 11-8.

King was named to the all-tournament team.

SOFTBALL

North Marion 5, Dunnellon 2: At NMHS, the Colts were led by Katelyn Helton (3-4, run, 2 RBI), Shelby Moran (1-2, BB, sac), Stephine Olivencia (1-2, run, BB, SB) and D’nhia Johnson (2 BB, 2 runs, 2 SB, sac).

North Marion (4-4) will host Belleview on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Belleview 15, Alpha 0: In Panama City, the Rattlers were led by Jaela Haynes (2-4, 3B, RBI), Gigi Santiago (2-run 2B) and Brooke Butcher (1B, 2 runs).

Belleview 9, Arnold 6: In Panama City, the Rattlers were paced by Haynes (3-4, 3rd HR of season, 3B, 2 runs), Lynnay Howard (first career HR), Kylah Gardner (3 hits, 2B, RBI) and Emily Pearce (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI).

BHS (5-3) will face Holmes County at noon and then Franklin County at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Trinity Catholic 4, Orlando Christian Prep 3: At OCP, the Celtics were led by Kaylee Oliver (2-4, 2nd HR of season), Emma Wyman (2-3, 2 RBI, 4th complete game of the week on the mound, 13 Ks, 2 hits and 2 BBs), Ashley Sellers (2-4, 2 2Bs) and Tatiana Demcovich (2-4, 2 2Bs).

The come-from-behind win lifted TC to 3-4 with a trip to Mount Dora Christian next on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

BASEBALL

Forest 8, Dunnellon 2: At FHS, the Wildcats were led by Kolten Smith (3 IP with 6 Ks), Brady Vowinkel (2 IP with 3 Ks) and Bo Hunt and Jordan Perry, who each threw an inning of scoreless relief to close the game.

Trevor Murray (2 hits, 2 RBI, 3 runs, SB) and Tyler Thomas (2 hits, 2 runs, 3 RBI) led the way at the plate for the hosts.

Forest (4-3) will visit Buchholz on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Buchholz 2, North Marion 1: At BHS, the Colts were paced by Wyatt Campbell (6 IP with 8 Ks; 2 hits at the plate, including a 2B).

NMHS (3-2) will visit Keystone Heights on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Oak Hall 9, Redeemer 2: At St. John, the hosts were led by CIU commitment Craigee Breach (4 IP, 5 Ks to drop to 2-1), Asher Greenberg (1-4, run) and Cole Celano (2 BBs, run).

Redeemer (3-2) will visit Seven Rivers on March 16 at 7 p.m.
