7 area players compete in FACA girls soccer All-Star Classic
West team wins two matches by a combined 17-1
LAKELAND
The West won two matches at the Florida Athletic Coaches Association girls soccer All-Star Classic on Friday and Saturday at Bryant Stadium.
The West blanked the East, 10-0, Friday and defeated the South, 7-1, Saturday.
Area players accounted for 11 of the 17 goals. West goalie Ashton Pennell of state champion Venice High did not allow a goal during her time in the nets.
The West consisted of players from Naples to Crystal River.
Area players on the West are Heather Squitieri of Manatee High, Lauren Raggazone of Lemon Bay High, Kiki Slattery, Pennel, Rachel Dalton and Eileen Solomon of Venice High and Emily Idoyoga of North Port High.
Solomon was named the All-Star Most Valuable Player by her peers.
Gary Bolyard of Venice was one of the coaches for the West.
