Gordon repeats as top girls basketball player in Class 6A

Braden River High guard now up for Miss Basketball

Braden River High junior guard O'Mariah Gordon was named the top girls basketball player in Class 6A by the Florida Dairy Farmers media vote. Gordon now is up for Miss Basketball in Florida.

The awards are beginning to roll in again for Braden River High girls basketball player O’Mariah Gordon.

The senior repeated as the Class 6A Player of the Year as per a vote by the Florida Dairy Farmers via the media. 

Gordon is now in line for Miss Basketball in Florida, an award she won last year.

Despite missing time at the end of the season with an ankle injury, the guard averaged 23 points, 4.8 assists, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game. 

She recently signed to play college basketball at Florida State University.

Gordon finished the voting with 68 points to 62 for Samara Spencer of Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas. Na’Haviya Paxton of Columbia received 61 points.

Also, a couple of area coaches were among the top three in their class after leading their respective teams to the State Final 4.

Cardinal Mooney Catholic’s Rico Antonio finished second in the Class 3A voting for Coach of the Year with 92 points, just behind the 102 received by Ochiel Swaby of Miami Country Day.

Charlotte High’s Matthew Stephenson was third in the Class 6A Coach of the Year voting after leading the Tarpons to the state semifinals for the first time in program history.
