Mark Griseck, who led Olympia to a 2009 state runner-up finish, said on Tuesday he has accepted an offer to be the first boys basketball coach for Windermere High School, which opens in August.

“That school is three miles from my house, which is nice,” Griseck said.

Griseck was an Apopka assistant for the past two seasons after pinch-hitting as the Blue Darters’ interim head coach for one.

He stepped down at Olympia after compiling a 128-69 record in seven seasons with the Titans (2007-14), primarily to have the time to see his son, Trey, complete his college basketball career at St. Leo. Trey followed his father into coaching when he joined the Apopka staff last season.

“I wanted to be able to catch Trey’s games. Now that’s he’s graduated (last spring) I guess I can get thrown back into the fire,” Griseck said.

He coached Gainesville P.K. Yonge to state runner-up finishes in 2003 and 2007 before moving to Orlando to take the Olympia job.

Griseck has a 291-144 overall record in 15 seasons as a head coach.
