The last remaining undefeated team among the area’s large-class high school football programs has moved up to No. 1 in the Sentinel Super 16 rankings.

Seminole, which missed the playoffs last year despite an 8-2 record, swapped spots with Edgewater after the Eagles lost for the first time 39-24 at nationally ranked Marietta, Ga.

The Seminoles (6-0) opened the season with consecutive wins over Super 16 teams Dr. Phillips, Lake Mary and DeLand before going on the road to beat state-ranked Daytona Beach Mainland (2-3). Seminole travels to Flagler Palm Coast (6-0) for a Class 8A, District 2 battle of unbeatens this week in a game that will likely decide one of the region’s four district champs, which earns an automatic spot in the playoffs.

The Florida High School Athletic Association playoff rankings are scheduled to be released for the first time Tuesday at 2 p.m. The rankings will be used to determine four at-large wild-card berths per region for Classes 8A-5A.

Edgewater (6-1), winner against Jones, Wekiva, Bishop Moore and Winter Park this season, regroups for a 7A-3 game Friday at Groveland South Lake (3-3). Shary Jefferson, Justin Hoskins and D.J.
