Vero Beach will play St. Thomas Aquinas in Class 2A girls lacrosse finals

KISSIMMEE — Alexa Vega scored five goals to lead Vero Beach (16-1) to a 14-8 win over Bartram Trail (17-4) in the FHSAA Class 2A Girls’ Lacrosse Semifinal.

The win on Friday set up a 5 p.m. championship game on Saturday between Vero and St. Thomas Aquinas, an 8-7 winner over George Steinbrenner High in the other semifinal. 

Bartram jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Vero responded by scoring 12 of the next 15 goals in the game – including eight consecutive in the second and third periods to take a commanding 12-4 lead. 

Kerrigan Gilmore, Emily Adams and Ana Horvit each scored three goals for Vero; Izzy Diforto had three goals for Bartram.
