Title Town: Reliving all St. Johns County championship teams from 2020-21 season

ST. AUGUSTINE — The most rewarding and agonizing reality of sports is only one team gets to hoist the trophy at the end of the season.

In the 2020-2021 school year, seven teams from four St. Johns County schools got that honor. Here’s a look at the champs from this year. 

Bartram Trail girls soccer wins state title 

They won it again. The Bears went 19-2 and repeated as 7A State Champs. 

The scary part is they show no signs of slowing down. The Bears will only lose three seniors to graduation and star player Grace Ivey — who scored a team-leading 20 goals and 45 points — is a rising junior.

St. Augustine, Bartram Trail cheerleading squads win championships

Bartram Trail girls’ teams have a penchant for repeating. The Bears’ cheerleading squad won in the 2A large varsity division this year to notch their second consecutive title and fifth in program history. 

Over at St. Augustine, the Yellow Jackets' squad also won the title in the Class 1A Small Coed Division. 

Creekside girls swimming wins third title in four years 

Three out of four isn’t bad. The Knights snagged their third 4A state title in four years.

This team — like the Bartram Trail cheerleaders — also cruised to victory. Creekside outscored second-place finisher Oviedo by 25 points. 

In other words, look out next year. 

Ponte Vedra boys golf wins 2A championship ... again 

Four-peat, anyone?

The Sharks have held the 2A title for the last four years. Rising junior Jack Barned, who led the Sharks to their most recent title, will be more experienced and ready to help the Sharks continue their winning ways this fall. 

After an eight-year title drought, the Sharks finally reached the top again in 2021.

Ponte Vedra girls soccer ends title drought  

After an eight-year title drought, the Sharks finally reached the top again in 2021. Ponte Vedra shut out Archbishop McCarthy 2-0 to win the 5A title.

The Sharks, who went 14-3-5, have mostly juniors and seniors coming back, along with seven-time champion coach Dave Silverberg. 

The Sharks went a perfect 27-0 and won their third state championship in four years.

Ponte Vedra girls volleyball goes undefeated  

Unblemished, untouched, undefeated.

The Sharks went a perfect 27-0 and won their third state championship in four years.

The 2020 5A title is their second straight, so don't be surprised when they're in contention for a three-peat this fall.
