Fleming Island's Cody Carwile named Class 6A baseball player of the year

Unbeaten during the season, Cody Carwile can now claim another victory on the baseball diamond.

The Fleming Island senior pitcher was recognized Friday as the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 6A player of the year for 2021 after leading the Golden Eagles to their first-ever state final.

Signed with Georgia Tech, he now enters the list of finalists for the Mr. Baseball award next week.

Carwile demonstrated superb command from beginning to end in 2021, winning every start to finish with a 12-0 record, an 0.77 ERA and 121 strikeouts against only 17 walks.

Bolles senior Jackson Baumeister, who excelled as both pitcher (9-2, 0.63 ERA, 145 K) and batter (.318, 4 HR, 1.195 OPS) in 2021, finished third in voting for the top player in Class 3A.

Fleming Island's Grant Bigilin finished second in top coach balloting for Class 6A, with St. Johns Country Day's Tom Lucas second in Class 2A and Bolles' Mike Boswell third in Class 3A.
