The Franklin County Rebels lost to the McCallie Blue Tornado 10-0 on the road Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader.
An eight-run third inning from the Blue Tornado put the Rebels in a deep hole as the contest ended after five innings due to the mercy rule.
With two outs and nobody on in the bottom of the second, the Blue Tornado’s next five batters reached base as two walks, an RBI single and two hit batters produced two runs for the frame.
The Blue Tornado’s first six batters in the bottom of the third reached base to produce another five runs, and three additional runs scored later in the same inning to put Franklin County in a 10-run hole.
The Rebels were unable to scratch across any runs in the remaining innings as they took a decisive loss by 10.
Graysen McNeese pitched the first 1 2-3 innings for the Rebels with four strikeouts, one hit, three walks and two earned runs allowed.
Keylen Partin and Mason Wells recorded one out each in relief with Partin allowing two hits, two walks and four earned runs while Wells allowed two hits, one walk, two earned runs and one unearned run.
Noah Knapper pitched the remaining 1 2-3 innings for the Rebels with three strikeouts, two hits and one unearned run allowed.
With the loss, the Rebels moved to 1-4 on the season.
McCallie 6, Rebels 1
The Rebels lost to the McCallie Blue Tornado 6-1 on the road Saturday in the second game of the doubleheader.
The Rebels fell behind early with the Blue Tornado pulling away in the bottom of the sixth to give the Rebels their second defeat of the day.
The Blue Tornado scored one run each in the first and second innings to create an early 2-0 deficit for Franklin County.
The Rebels’ lone run of the day came in the top of the third as Sam Vincent drew a walk, moved to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on another wild pitch to make it a 2-1 game.
A solo home run from the Blue Tornado in the bottom of the fifth made it a two-run game again, and a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth boosted McCallie’s lead further.
The Rebels weren’t able to answer back in the seventh inning as they lost by five.
Vincent started on the mound for the Rebels and pitched four innings with six strikeouts, two hits, two walks and two runs allowed.
Josiah Cullins came out of the bullpen for the last two innings with one strikeout, five hits and four runs allowed.
With the loss, the Rebels moved to 1-5 on the season.
They will next play Monday at home against East Hamilton High School. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
