Strong pitching, hitting propels Bronson to win over Wildwood in District 7-1R quarterfinals

Shortstop Presley Thomas went 4-for-4 at the plate with five RBIs, while pitcher Julianne Lampton struck out 15 batters and gave up no hits in five innings of work, to lead No. 3 seed Bronson to a, 14-0, run-rule victory over the No. 6 seed Wildcats.

The win was the Eagles' first district softball win since 2003 and fourth victory in a row.

Bronson will take on No. 2 seed Williston in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Also picking up a victory in the quarterfinal round was No. 4 seed Chiefland, which run-ruled No. 5 seed Hawthorne, 12-0, behind a strong performance on the mound from pitcher Anna Jane Meeks. 

Meeks gave up just one hit and no runs while striking out 13 batters in five innings of work. 

First baseman Evie Meeks went 2-for-2 at the plate with three RBIs. Left fielder Aubrey Weatherford and Anna Jane Meeks each added two RBIs to also contribute in the scoring.  

The Indians will take on top-seed Trenton in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
