“We came out strong scoring four goals in the first half,” girls coach Jonathan Fuller said. “It was great to see the girls settle in and play well after a rough week last week. You could see that our girls were confident and having fun. Jackson had several key players that we had to watch out for, but our defense was able to shut them down.”
The Lady Phoenix shifted Emma Mullins back to goalie, and she had a couple of key stops, the coach said.
Juliet Kindl scored two goals and also had one of the best assists of the season to Skyler Bunch, who scored a goal of her own.
Malya Moore scored her first goal of the season on a beautiful cross from Jaren Sanchez, who also scored a goal of her own.
The girls now play at East Jackson on Thursday, May 1 at 6 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Sonoraville boys kept rolling with a win on the road as Yobani Monroy, Mateo Trujillo, Jose Garcia, Jordi Gonzalez and Lucas Lewis all scored one goal.
Now, it’s back on the road again for the Phoenix with a second-round game at Columbus High School on Friday, May 2.
