Logan Wideman had a big day and Walton got solid pitching to sweep a doubleheader from East Coweta 14-7 and 3-2 in the second round of the Class AAAAAA state playoffs Tuesday.
The Raiders (27-7) will travel to Cobb County rival Harrison for a state quarterfinal matchup beginning May 7.
Wideman went 4-for-5 with a home run and two doubles in Game 1, while Jackson Taylor homered and drove in two and Walker Killimett went 3-for-5. Parker Dastou and Matthew Haber each had two hits including a double and drove in three, Wyatt Reuter went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and William Crow added two hits.
Adler Bowen pitched four innings of two-hit ball and struck out four for the win.
In Game 2, Wideman had a two-run double and Westin Chen pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing three hits and struck out five for the win.
North Gwinnett 10-12, McEachern 0-0: The Bulldogs got two six-inning pitching gems from Ryan Hall and Tyler Sohn, and the offense backed them with 22 runs to complete a sweep in the second round of the Class AAAAAA state playoffs.
Hall and Sohn combined to allow just five hits and no runs across the two games and frustrated the Indians offense.
North Gwinnett (31-2) will host North Paulding in next week’s state quarterfinals. McEachern closed the season 24-8.
GIRLS SOCCER
Tuesday
Allatoona 3, Pace Academy 2 (PK): The Buccaneers earned the victory with a 6-4 edge on penalty kicks in the second round of the Class AAAA state playoffs.
Allatoona (19-1) will travel to North Oconee for the state quarterfinals Monday.
Molly Bulliner scored both goals for the Buccaneers in the first half of regulation. Meredith Holland and Reese Denson each had an assist.
Lassiter 2, Chamblee 0: Ashlyn Huie and Hailey Johnbaptiste each scored a goal to lead the Trojans to a victory in the second round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs.
Lassiter (16-3) will travel to Greenbrier for the state quarterfinals Monday.
Jillian Kluth had assists on both goals. Malia Loadwick earned the shutout in goal.
West Forsyth 4, Hillgrove 1: The Wolverines won a physical playoff match in the second round of the Class AAAAAA state playoffs.
The Wolverines (18-1) will host North Paulding next week in the state quarterfinals. Hillgrove finished the season 14-3..
With the game tied 1-all, Megan Rivera’s goal into the left corner gave West Forsyth the lead.
With 2 minutes remaining, Abby Batts won a one-on-one situation and scored to seal the win. Annabelle Utz’s penalty kick with just over 30 seconds remaining capped the scoring.
Averee Rainge scored Hillgrove’s only goal on a long-distance shot that tied the game at 1-all.
Brookwood 1, Campbell 0: A late goal propelled the Broncos to a victory in the second round of the Class AAAAAA state playoffs.
Brookwood (18-0) will travel to Buford for a quarterfinal matchup next week.
Maddie Allen delivered the game winner from 20 yards out with 12:15 left in regulation.
Campbell finished the season 12-5.
