Several athletes from the Clarksville area qualified for the TSSAA track and field state championships through their performances at this week's Class AAA Section 3 meet at Kirkwood.

The top four finishers in each event advanced to the state meet, which will take place at Dean A. Hayes Stadium on the campus of Middle Tennessee State in Murfreesboro on May 23.

Kenwood senior Zachariah Taylor, last season's Leaf-Chronicle All-Area Athlete of the Year, won a section title in the 100-meter dash. Clarksville senior Hayden Waleski, a two-time Athlete of the Year in cross country, was victorious in the 800.

Clarksville senior Ella Moore took first place in the shot put, and Rossview senior Kristen DeSantis, the 2023 All-Area girls soccer player of the year, won the pole vault. DeSantis teamed up with Nevaeh Brown, Kaitlyn McLeod and Nevada Williams to win the 4x100-meter relay as well.

Brentwood won the meet on the girls' side, with the Bruins' 193 points well ahead of second place Green Hill (86 points). Rossview was the top-placing Montgomery County team with 45 points, good for third, while Northeast (34.5) took seventh.

The Bruins' boys team won as well, scoring 163 points to more than double up Ravenwood (74 points) in second. Kenwood (31.33 points, seventh place) was the only area team in the top 10.
