• PANCAKE & SAUSAGE BREAKFAST: The Prairie Lodge #125 (Rensselaer Moose Lodge) will hold an all-you-can-eat pancake and hog sausage breakfast on Saturday, May 3 from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. This is the same day as the city’s town-wide garage sales. Tickets can be purchased from any Lodge member for $8 or can be purchased at the door on the day of the event. The Mason Lodge is located at 724 W. Washington St. in Rensselaer.

• WHEATFIELD LIONS DINNER: The Wheatfield Lions Club will hold a pork chop/chicken supper at the Wheatfield Lion Hall on Saturday, May 10 from 4-7 p.m. Adults can eat for $12 each and the cost for kids under 12 is $6. Dine in or carry-out available. There will also be a silent auction.

• REMINGTON COUNCIL: The Remington Town Council will meet on Monday, May 5 at 6:30 p.m.,EST, at the Remington Town Hall.

• LIBRARY BOARD TO MEET: The Jasper County Library Board will meet on Monday, May 12 at 6 p.m., CST, in the Rensselaer Library’s meeting room. Meetings are open to the public.

• JOGGING WITH JESUS: Lifewise Academy in Francesville will hold Jogging with Jesus 5K on Sunday, May 4 beginning at 3 p.m., EST. Runners will meet at the Francesville Town Park where they will board a bus to the starting line at the Lifewise Academy building across from West Central High School. The 5K will end at the town park at 100 North Brooks Street in Francesville. The cost is $25 for adults and $15 for students and registration and check-in will be held from 3-3:40 p.m. The bus ride will start at 3:50 p.m., with the race to begin at 4 p.m. If you don’t plan to participate in the 5K, there will be something for everyone, including food and fun.

• DAR CEREMONY: The General Van Rensselaer Chapter and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will dedicate grave markers of the daughters of Patriot Nathaniel White on Sunday, June 8 at 1 p.m., CST, at the Crockett Cemetery in Rensselaer. White’s daughters were Lucy White Daugherty and Sarah White Williams. The cemetery is located at County Road South 180 West and County Road 725. A reception will follow the ceremony at the Jasper County Historical Society at 479 N. Van Rensselaer St.

• DRAINAGE BOARD: The Jasper County Drainage Board will meet at the Jasper County Health Department/CASA meeting room on Monday, May 5 after the 8:30 a.m. Commissioners’ meeting. The health department building is located at 910 S. Sparling Avenue in Rensselaer.

• REDEVELOPMENT BOARD: The Remington Redevelopment Board will meet on Monday, May 5 at 5:30 p.m., EST, at the Remington Town Hall.

• GOLF OUTING IN JUNE: The Michael E. Greene Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #189 will hold its 30th annual golf outing on June 30 at Sandy Pines Golf Course in DeMotte. Proceeds from the event will benefit the lodge’s Shop with a Cop and college scholarship programs. Registration and lunch will beheld from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The cost is $375 per team.

• FRANCISCAN HEALTH AT FASE CENTER: Franciscan Health will hold a session on Palliative Care in the home on Monday, May 5 at the Fase Senior Center in DeMotte. The program will begin at 11:45 a.m. and there will be a lunch before the presentation. Palliative Care provides compassionate care and support to patients and families through education by navigating resources to support their illness. Fase Center is located at State Road 10 and County Road 600 West in DeMotte.

• REMINGTON PARKS: The Remington Park Board will meet on Thursday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m., EST, at the Remington Town Hall.

• HORSE CAMP: The Jasper County Horse and Pony Camp is scheduled for June 23-25 at the county fairgrounds. A number of clinicians will be working with kids of all ages and abilities for the purpose of advancing each rider’s ability and confidence. Classes start at 8 a.m. on June 23 and cost $100 per rider. Payment for camping will be collected at camp check-in on June 23 and not before. • KV POP WARNER: Registration for the Kankakee Valley Pop Warner cheer squad and football team is currently underway. You can register at kvpopwarner.org or kids can also register at the DeMotte Library from 5:30-7 p.m. on May 14, the Wheatfield Library from 12-4 p.m. on May 17 and the DeMotte Library from 5:30-7 p.m. on May 28.

• COMMUNITY GARDEN: The Purdue Extension Office is providing 20-foot by 20-foot plots in its Community Garden to those who wish to grow vegetables this spring and summer. The cost is $20 per plot and water and various gardening tools are available. The extension office is located on U.S. 231 or 2530 N. McKinley Avenue in Rensselaer.

• TOWN WIDE YARD SALE: The Jasper County Fair Association will hold a town wide yard sale at the county fairgrounds on May 2-3 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Among the items for sale are toys, clothes, books, sports gear, antiques, furniture, jewelry, collectibles and more.

• TEXAS HOLD’EM: VFW Post 1279 in Rensselaer will host a monthly Texas Hold’Em tournament on the last Saturday of the month.

• LERC MEETINGS: The Jasper County LEPC (Local Emergency Planning Council) will meet six times throughout 2025. The first date was set for Feb. 13 via Zoom. The committee will also meet on June 12, Aug 14, Oct 16, and Dec. 11, 2025.

• FISH FRY AT VFW: The VFW Post 1279 in Rensselaer holds a fish fry every Friday night in its building. Drive-thru and carry-out orders are available by calling 219-866-7845.

• T.O.P.S. MEETINGS: Take Off Pounds Sensibly (T.O.P.S.) weight loss group meets every Thursday afternoon from 1-3 p.m. in the Rensselaer Library’s meeting room. All ages are welcome.

• GOLF CARTS REGISTRATION: The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department is accepting applications to register ATV and golf carts so they may be operated on county roads. The new ATV/golf cart ordinance and registration form can be found at www.jaspercountypolice.com. Once the registration form is completed and the $25 fee has been collected at the Jasper County Sheriff’s Annex in DeMotte or the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department in Rensselaer, drivers will then receive a registration sticker to operate their cart on county roads. As a reminder, the ATV registered with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office must still be registered with the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles to operate on roadways.

• MEALS-ON-WHEELS: Meals-On-Wheels low-cost home-delivered meals are now available in Jasper and Newton counties. For more information or to order meal delivery, call (219) 756-3663 or on the web at mownwi.org.

• BE A FIREFIGHTER: The Rensselaer Fire Department Is currently taking applications for volunteer firefighters. No experience is necessary to apply. The department will provide all training and PPE for free. You must be at least 19 years of age, live within six miles of the city limits and have the time to be a dedicated individual. Applications can be picked up at the first station from Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• NARCOTICS ANONYMOUS: The Narcotics Anonymous Support Group will meet on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. at the Nazarene Church Fellowship Hall in Rensselaer. This is a closed meeting. The time is now to listen and share your experiences, strengths and hopes. The group helps people with life’s problems and additions one day at a time.

• BIRTHRIGHT OF RENSSELAER: Birthright of Rensselaer is open at normal capacity at 331 S. College Avenue. The hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Curbside service is still available. For more information, call 866-4555.

• 500 CLUB ENROLLMENT: The Rensselaer 500 Club, Rensselaer’s only Athletic Booster Club, is holding a membership drive. The cost is $60 per year and semi-annual cash drawings are held for cash prizes of $500. Your membership helps support Rensselaer high school and middle school teams, St. Augustine teams, RBI Baseball, SJC Youth Soccer League, Youth Basketball, Summer Swim Team, Pop Warner and more.
