EVANSVILLE — Head Coach Bobby Segal’s Gibson Southern baseball team scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take a quick 2-0 lead over host Evansville Christian on Saturday morning and then came back push an additional 10 runs across home plate in the top of the second inning to, for all practical purposes, put the game away en route to a 14-1 five-inning non-conference win over the host Eagles.
The Titans ripped 14 base hits in the run-rule shortened contest, including a two-run home run by senior Connor Marvel, in the game against the Eagles.
Sophomore Crewe Hasenour had a 4-for-4 day at the plate to lead the Titan offensive attack, while junior Ryan Spink had a pair of hits in four trips to the plate.
Sophomore Brayden Campbell, junior Ty Keller, Marvel, sophomore Collin Higginbotham, junior Brayden Alldredge, freshman Ben Rich, sophomore Cooper Wahl, and junior Colin Scherer all had one hit in the five-inning contest.
Keller started on the mound for the Titans, and the junior hurler went the first four innings to pick up the win, while freshman Rhys Sorgious tossed the fifth inning to secure the Titans' victory.
“We’re playing pretty well right now,” confided Segal after the game, “We’re hitting the ball, and our pitching has been really good over the past several games."
“We’re at the halfway mark of our season, and I’m pleased at the progress we’ve made. I like where we are right now."
The win gave Gibson Southern a 12-4 record overall for the 2025 season, including 7-1 in Pocket Athletic Conference (PAC), good for first place in the conference.
The Titans were scheduled to play Castle in a non-conference outing on Monday at home ahead of a road trip to Pike Central on the docket for a PAC game on Tuesday. That contest is slated for a first-pitch time of 5 p.m. Central.
On Thursday, the Titans are slated to host Southridge in a PAC contest, with the first pitch scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Central.
