Bulldogs notch two wins over Panthers

MARYSVILLE — The Marysville Bulldogs scored 10 runs in the fifth and sixth innings combined to pull away to a 14-4 victory over the Concordia Panthers and completed the sweep of a North Central Kansas League softball doubleheader on Thursday.
Marysville shut Concordia out 8-0 in the first game of the twinbill.
Game two was tied at 4-4 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Bulldogs put up four runs in the fifth and then added six in the sixth to end the game because of the 10-run rule.
Concordia scored first in the game.
Kira Kearn led off the top of the second inning with a single. She stole second and third and scored on a base hit by Arista Bombardier.
Marysville tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second.
Kendall Reynolds homered with Taegen Larsen aboard in the top of the third inning to give the Panthers a 3-1 cushion.
Marysville made it 3-2 with a run in the bottom of the inning.
Arista Bombardier singled and scored on a double by Larsen in the top of the fourth inning, and Concordia led 4-2.
Scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth, Marysville tied the game at 4-4.
The Bulldogs then put up four runs on three hits and two walks in the fifth inning to go on top to stay, 8-4.
Sending 10 batters to the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Bulldogs racked up six runs to end the game.
McKenzie Widen pitched the first five innings for Concordia in taking the loss. She gave up 10 runs on nine hits and walked four.
Larsen allowed four runs, two earned, on three hits and walked one in two-thirds of an inning.
The Panthers scored four runs on 10 hits.
Reynolds was 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs batted in.
Bombardier and Kearn had three hits each.
Larsen was 2-for-3.
Marysville's all-league pitcher Shelby Downard shut Concordia out on three hits in the first game of the doubleheader.
Downard struck out 11 and didn't walk any. She also hit a three-run home run in the third inning.
The game was scoreless through two innings.
Marysville put up four runs in the third.
Three runs in the fifth inning gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 advantage.
Marysville added one run in the sixth inning.
Hailey Budke took the loss for Concordia. She gave up seven runs on eight hits, struck out six and walked four in five innings.
Larsen surrendered one run on one hit, struck out two and walked one in one inning.
Concordia will wrap up the regular season with a league doubleheader at Clay Center on Monday.
