Owensboro Catholic will have seven seniors back who were on a 27-win volleyball team last season.
The Lady Aces wanted to hang a 28th win up but Meade County came back to win a 3-2 match for the 3rd Region championship. Catholic finished 27-9 and still tied for most wins in the region in 2023.
“In the regional championship we should’ve made change in lineup, but didn’t do it,” Catholic coach Brian Hardison said. “Meade switched it up and we didn’t.”
Catholic will be in the mix again for a regional crown with the talent it has returning.
Olivia Castlen, Jaiden Grant and Tyranda Stuart are back on the front line. Andi Davis will be the libero. Reese Keller is a setter, along with Alexis Ebelhar and Briley Powers.
Castlen had 357 kills last year. Stuart had 284 kills, Blair had 250 kills, and Grant had 229 kills.
Mayme Powell is a junior setter. Addie Oller and Ava Martin are two other juniors who should see time on the floor, along with Molly Arnold, another junior.
Hardison said practices have gone well getting ready for the season. Catholic played well at a camp at Morehead State. Catholic also went to the Bluegrass Games and got to the third flight, along with Bowling Green and Great Crossing.
The Lady Aces faced Bowling Green in a mega-scrimmage last weekend in Bowling Green.
Owensboro Catholic opens the regular season with Bowling Green at the Catholic gym Monday at 7:30 p.m.
Catholic has improved on running more uptempo, and it has also worked on blocking.
“We need to improve on finishing,” Hardison said. “We will have teams down, then they catch back up. I’m always going to say our serve and receive needs to get better, too.”
