Grand Rapids Northview wrestling team outmans Grand Rapids Forest Hills Eastern for a 69-9 win

Grand Rapids Northview’s Matt Dolleman edged Grand Rapids Forest Hills Eastern’s Jake Dault 7-6 in the 119 pound weight class.

“Dault was winning with 20 seconds to go, but got reversed at the last second and was unable to get out of it to get the tying point,” Forest Hills Eastern coach Dan Rasey said.

Northview won 12 weight classes thanks to eight forfeits by Forest Hills Eastern. Matt Norris (112 pounds), Robert Brown (140) and Dominic Rill (189) all pinned their opponents.

Forest Hills Eastern’s Randy Smith (103) defeated Northview’s A.J.Wawee in a 6-0 decision, and senior Elijah Lopez (130) pinned Brandon Bazen in 3:46.

“The biggest problem for Smith is that he is all of 90 pounds,” Rasey said. “The only guys he has lost to are 112-pounders who cut weight and are able to outmuscle him. Anyone who is his size or skill level, he’s been able to beat.”

Besides sitting out two wrestlers in order to keep them healthy for the post season, Forest Hills Eastern only has nine wrestlers.

“We wrestled pretty tough tonight, but we just don’t have enough guys on the team,” Grand Rapids Forest Hills coach Dan Rasey said. “We are in a complete rebuild over here. I knew we were going to have a hard time.”
