Mississippi high school basketball state championship roundup: Class 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A winners

JACKSON — The Mississippi high school boys and girls basketball championships are underway at the Mississippi Coliseum. Games began Thursday and run through Saturday. Here is a recap of some of the games.

Bay Springs boys dedicate title to late coach Corey Mackey, beat Pelahatchie in Class 2A

It was the first thing coach Stan Jones mentioned after the Bulldogs' 44-42 win over Pelahatchie. Bay Springs dedicated its MHSAA Class 2A championship to former coach Corey Mackey, who died during the season in January 2024. Bay Springs (27-4) won its first title since 2019 and third overall Saturday.

Jadius McCormick led Bay Springs in scoring with 19 points and Dalyn Pierce added 12. Mickey Jennings led Pelahatchie (29-3) with 14 points.

Choctaw Central girls win over Morton, claim first MHSAA Class 4A title since 2022

Intense defense and a fast-tempo offense led to Choctaw Central winning the MHSAA Class 4A state championship 52-31 over Morton on Saturday at Mississippi Coliseum. Choctaw Central (30-2) claimed its first title since 2022 and ninth overall.

The Lady Warriors forced Morton to have 30 turnovers. Choctaw Central's leading scorers were Raiyleigh and Kailynn Perry, both with 12 points.

Morton's (25-6) leaders were Tessa Jenkins and Charity Beemon had eight points each.

Ingomar girls win third straight title, down East Union in Class 2A, 14th overall

The Ingomar girls basketball dynasty continues. The Lady Falcons claimed the MHSAA Class 2A state championship 58-28 over East Union on Saturday. It the 14th title for Ingomar.

Cadie Jo Byrd led the Lady Falcons (32-2) with 24 points and Middle Tennesse signee and MHSAA 2A Miss winner Macie Phifer recorded 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Adison Russell led East Union (26-6) with 10 points.

Booneville boys wins fourth straight Class 3A title

Booneville coach Michael Smith, who coaches both the boys and girls teams, had to adjust quickly after the girls won their championship. The Blue Devils (30-4) beat Coahoma County 57-39 on Friday for their fourth straight MHSAA Class 3A boys title.

"It's unbelievable to not get satisfied," Smith said. "These kids just continue to work the whole time."

Smith is the most successful high school basketball coach in Mississippi history with 10 boys and girls state titles combined. The boys team has won 28 straight playoff games under Smith.

Kedrick Simmons, MHSAA Mr. 3A winner and a Jackson State signee, led Booneville with 21 points and nine rebounds, and Dalton Jackson had 13 points. Caleb Hearn led Coahoma County (23-3) with nine points.

Booneville girls claim Class 3A over Jefferson Davis County, third title in four years

Booneville's girls team (27-5) kept its foot on the gas from the first minute till the final buzzer to win the MHSSA Class 3A girls state championship 59-33. It's the Lady Blue Devils' third state title in four years and fifth overall.

Ava Kathryn Smith, who had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, was named the game's MVP. Sa'Niyah Cook scored 16 points.

Jayda Porter had eight points for Jefferson Davis County (25-6), and Kevionna Myers had seven.

Biggersville girls win Class 1A over Thrasher for second overall title

Biggersville girls basketball claimed the MHSAA Class 1A title in a 54-47 win over Thrasher on Friday. It's the Lady Lions' first state title since 2022 and their second overall.

Sadiya Hill led Biggersville (28-5) with 24 points and Jaylee Stafford had 19.

Makayla McDaniel (15 points) and Bryleigh Cummings (10) led Thrasher (28-6).
