Girls volleyball roundup: Vikings gain share of first with win over Hilltoppers

St. Joseph Hill looked poised to cruise to an undefeated regular season and its first CHSAA Staten Island title. But St. Joseph by the Sea threw a monkey wrench into that plan Thursday afternoon.

The Vikings beat the Hilltoppers, 25-9, 25-18, 25-18, in Huguenot in a battle of the division’s two best squads. The last time they met, Hill (8-1) swept Sea (7-1) at home.

Amanda Lewis had six kills and seven digs, Jackie Bonamassa had eight assists and nine digs and Jackie Kelly had six aces and six digs to lead the Vikings. Kristen Luisi had 11 assists, Allison Perretti had eight digs and Nicole Gundacked added six kills.

The two teams will play a rubber match, with the division crown likely at stake, on Oct. 22.

St. Catharine Academy 3, Our Lady of Victory 0: Amarilda Shkoza had nine kills, Alessandra Rosso had six kills and Lauren Paylor had 17 assists to lead SCA (9-0) to a 25-9, 25-9, 25-15 win in CHSAA Bronx/Westchester.

Cardinal Spellman 3, St. Raymond 0: Laura McCaffrey had five kills, five assists and five digs and Stefania Gabriella had six aces to lead Spellman (9-3) to a 25-8, 25-18, 25-20 win in CHSAA Bronx/Westchester.

PSAL CLASS A

Susan Wagner 2, Curtis 0: Amanda Fiore had 14 assists and eight digs to lead Wagner to a 25-14, 25-21 win in Staten Island A9. Emily Burke had 10 kills, Esther Jang had nine digs and Devon Kelly had five aces for the Falcons on their Breast Cancer Awareness Day.

Midwood 2, Lincoln 0: Anna Aleksandrovskaya had eight assists, Shannon Appel had six aces and Marcela Jimenez had five assists to lead Midwood (6-0) to a 25-8, 25-9 win in Brooklyn A3. Lincoln is 0-5.
