A big second inning propelled the Wilkes Central varsity baseball team to a 9-7 intercounty senior night win over West Wilkes in Moravian Falls on Tuesday.
The Eagles plated eight runs in the second, erasing a 3-0 deficit. Central then held off West to end a 14-game losing streak against the Blackhawks and up its marks to 5-15 overall and 2-9 in Foothills 2A Conference play.

But the Eagles roared back in the second, capped by Casey Adams’ three-run single to right. Taylor Bumgarner doubled and went 3-for-3 for Central.
"We had really good at bats at the plate, threw the ball well on the mound by attacking the zone, and made the tough plays on defense when we needed to," said Central Coach Eli Boles. "I am proud of how our guys played on senior night for the lone senior (Cam Key) we have on the team. We competed and played hard for the entire game."
West brought the potential tying run to the plate in the seventh, but Evan Adams induced an infield fly to end the game and earn the save.
