Perrysburg girls qualify for state golf (10-8-13)

Perrysburg’s girls golf team is headed to the Division I state high school tournament for the
first time.The Yellow Jackets finished second during Tuesday’s district tournament at Stone Ridge to qualify
for state.Perrysburg had a 360 total to finish as the runnerup to St. Ursula with a 324 in the six-team
district.The top two teams and top two individuals not on a qualifying team advanced to the state tournament
Oct. 18-19 at Ohio State University,Bowling Green was sixth with a 410 total.Perrysburg edged Northern Lakes
League rival Northview by three strokes for the final state spot.It’s the first time any Northern Lakes
League girls team has advanced to state, Perrysburg coach Rick Rettig said.“Our goals are broken down into
how we operate … and playing for a league championship and a state championship are just the frosting on
the cake,” Rettig said.“We haven’t really talked that much about going to the state championship with the
exception of when we qualified out of sectionals.”Monica Dorner led Perrysburg with an 86, while Katie Diehl
added an 89.The Yellow Jackets’ other scores were: Macy Tudor, 92; Madison Williams, 93; and Sonia Krolak,
111.“Our motto for the year was ‘No excuses, no regrets.’ … We’ve been focusing on this year since the
change of the calender year.”“We’re really proud,” Rettig said. “It was a beautiful day and the course was
tough. I’m a little bit speechless in putting this into words because we’ve worked so hard for this.“We
played a better second nine than we did the first nine, that’s the reason we were able to hold off
Northview.”BG’s scores were: Charlee Carroll, 96; Alisha Noon, 100; Andrea Cromley, 106; Drew Peterson, 108;
and Morgan Roe, 120.St. Ursula’s Lizzie Win was the medalist with a 74.The individual state qualifiers were:
Northview’s Ashley Knight, 82; and Ashland’s Tori Jones, 88.
