Notre Dame High School junior

shot a 5-over-par 77 to finish in third place Monday in the District 11 boys golf qualifying tournament at

in Orwigsburg, Pa.

Marone, who tied for second in the Colonial League tournament, finished three strokes behind medalist James Bromwell, a senior at Blue Mountain. Tyler Marcotte, another Blue Mountain senior, was second with a 76.

Bangor senior

and Emmaus junior Kyle Wambold both shot 78 to tie for fourth. Bangor junior

was sixth at 79.

The low 35 scores plus ties (40 boys overall) advanced to the District 11 championships this Monday at Blue Ridge Country Club in Lower Towamensing Township. The cutoff score was 85.

Five golfers were exempt from Monday's qualifying -- 2010 PIAA tournament qualifier Ben Andrews of Palmerton, Lehigh Valley Conference champion Luke Vadas of Parkland, Colonial League champion Cole Miller of Northwestern, Mountain Valley Conference champion Jim Catina of Stroudsburg and Schuylkill League champion Bailey Roos of Pottsville.

Defending District 11 champion

of Northampton advanced with an 82. The junior will be joined at the district tournament by teammates Matt Yanek (80), Kevin Kunkle (80), Anthony Cavallo (80) and Tyler Smith (82).

Nazareth sophomore Bret Howey (80) and junior A.J. Isodoro (83) qualified as did Liberty juniors Mitch Racosky and Ryan McMahon, who both shot 84.

Other Express-Times region golfers who advanced were Bethlehem Catholic seniors Gian Turco (80) and Anthony Beltrami (83), Saucon Valley senior Troy Heffelfinger (83), Wilson sophomore Collin Hagenbuch (85), Bangor senior Ben Lentine (85) and Moravian Academy junior Dan Lessig (85).
