Top NFL insider breaks down Tennessee Titans biggest draft needs

After weeks of speculation and pre-draft work, the time is almost here for commissioner Roger Goodell to make the walk to the podium and open the NFL draft.

By now, it isn’t much of a secret that the Tennessee Titans will be making their pick at No. 1 overall, and quarterback Cam Ward will likely become the new face of the franchise. While this move was expected and fills a perceived need, it opens the door for speculation about what the Titans will likely do with their seven remaining picks.

NFL analyst Albert Breer recently spoke with multiple NFL pro scouting directors to gauge their thoughts on teams and their needs heading into the draft. This is what they had to say about Tennessee.

Tennessee Titans

First round: No. 1.

Total picks: 8.

Needs: QB, edge, WR, LB, S.

What you need to know: You’d be better off listing what the Titans don’t need than what they do. But it’s been clear for a while what Tennessee is doing at No. 1. It’s as clear this year who the first pick will be as it was last year, with the Chicago Bears taking Caleb Williams. They’ve rebuffed teams that have called about trading up, signaling it would take a historic offer for them to even think about moving. They cancelled a workout with Sanders, with the agreed-upon premise that the two sides didn’t want to waste each other’s time. They only added journeymen Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle to the roster in March, with 2024 starter Will Levis held over. They sent cavalries to South Florida for Ward’s pro day and a private workout. Now we can start discussing which edge rusher, receiver, or lineman they’ll take at No. 35.

These personnel people hit the nail on the head: the Titans need quality edge and wide receiver help in this draft, on top of general depth across the board. In a perfect world, that is what they would look for in rounds two and three, but that isn’t their world. Tennessee lacks a third-round pick after dealing it to Kansas City for L’Jarius Sneed and now will be faced with a significant decision at No. 35.

Initial thoughts will likely gravitate toward a new weapon to pair with Ward, a common trend in the NFL. However, since they are in the middle of a rebuild, they may not be able to pass up the best available player. While this could cause a stir on social media, they really could benefit by going in any direction at that spot to help solidify their roster.
