On Friday, Cambridge moved to 0-3 with a 56-20 loss to the Augusta Eagles, but it showed a glimpse of what it can do on one particular play.
Cambridge quarterback Maddox Lee passed the ball about 10 yards to a receiver who turned and pitched the ball to a streaking Andrew Wiley. Wiley then took it 25 yards up the sideline for the score.
Unfortunately for Cambridge, its defense didn't match up.
Augusta came out with an offensive plan that was efficient early and often, scoring on all but two drives -- one being a last-second heave that was intercepted by Ben Price.
Augusta's Eli Poteet was big for the Eagles throughout, scoring three times in the first half.
Cambridge kept it close in the first half with big pass plays from Lee -- an 18-yard pass to Gentry Philips and a 10-yard throw to another receiver in addition to the trick play.
Cambridge entered the second half down just 10, but 36 straight points from Augusta spoiled the Cougars' homecoming celebration.
Cambridge turned the ball over a couple of time in the second half, including two picks by Augusta's Jekel Roberts, disrupting any potential momentum for the home side.
Still winless in their first season in more than two decades, the Cougars now go into their bye week before taking on Providence Athletic Club in two weeks.
