Emerald and Greenwood found themselves in familiar territory this past weekend at the Lakelands Invitational. The Emerald boys track and field team captured first place at the event for the second time in three years, while the Eagles girls squad claimed a second straight first-place finish.
The Emerald boys scored 118 points to 92.5 by second-place Greenwood. The Greenwood girls secured 174 points, 90 more than any other team.
Class A’s Dixie and Abbeville impressed, with the Dixie girls finishing in second place and the Abbeville boys coming in third. Ware Shoals came in sixth on the boys and girls side. The Greenwood Christian girls collected six points.
Area teams will be back in action later this week at their respective region meets. Wednesday, Greenwood will hit the track at TL Hanna. Thursday, Abbeville, Dixie, Ware Shoals and Calhoun Falls will compete in the Region 1-A meet at McCormick. Emerald will host its region championship Saturday.
