MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A team effort from the Lynx lead them to a 21-1 victory against the Centenary Gents on Sunday.
The Lynx advance their record to 5-2 while Centenary College falls to 0-3.
Starting the Lynx off,
Cooper Robinson scored two minutes into the first quarter.
Jason Lee scored next, with an assist by
Andrew Salamunovich, followed 30 seconds later with Lee's second goal of the day to give the Lynx a 3-0 lead. Spreading out the scoring, Rhodes finished the first quarter with four more goals from
MG Jadick,
Alex Morse,
Merrill Charette, and Salamunovich.
Rhodes continued to tally the points in the second quarter with goals from
Peter Baricev, Charette,
Ted Turner,
Matt Vavrek, Grahm Derrickson, and two goals from
Alessandro Secino. The Lynx took the 14-0 advantage into the halftime break.
In the second half, Rhodes continued its dominance with goals from Robinson,
Matt Renzo, Matthew Hones,
Gabriel Campbell and a third goal from Secino. The hot Lynx had a 19-0 lead through three quarters of play.
The final period the Lynx tacked on two more goals on an unassisted Jones score and a
Graham Derrickson to
William Posey combo for the Lynx' 21st goal. Cameron Hughes found the back of the net for the Gents in the final minute of play on a man-up opportunity to give Centenary its lone goal.
Michael Stierer was the Lynx net minder for all 60 minutes of play, as he grabbed two saves and the win in the outing.
Rhodes outshot its counterpart by a margin of 54-8, while also picking up more ground balls by a count of 41-18.
The Lynx will be back in action on March 8 as they host Piedmont College at 1 p.m. at Crain Field.
