MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes men's lacrosse team fell to Carthage College on Sunday, 14-8.
The Lynx move 1-1 on the young season while the Reds improve to 2-0 on the year.
The Lynx were forced to play catch-up after the Reds scored the first four straight goals.
Ryan Fennelly netted the first Lynx goal, and ended the scoring drought for Rhodes at the 1:33 mark in the first quarter. Carthage netted one more before the end of the period to make the score 5-1.
The Lynx found the back of the cage three more times in the second period, with
Owen Koorbusch,
Jason Lee and Andrew Slamunovich each scoring a goal to make the halftime count 7-4.
The Reds netted two more goals in the third quarter to push out to a 9-4 lead. In the fourth period there was a scoring frenzy with nine goals scored, with four Lynx goals. Koorbusch and Lee netted their second goals, while
Matt Vavrek and
Matthew Jones worked into the scoring column. The Lynx ultimately fell, 14-8.
The Lynx were out-shot in the contest 37-33, and narrowly missed in the ground balls category 30-29.
Thomas Matthews got the start in the cage for the Lynx, playing all 60 minutes and grabbing 13 saves while in the goal.
Rhodes will be back in action on Feb. 21 when they host DePauw University.
