ROME, Ga. – The Rhodes men's lacrosse team fell to Division II Shorter University on Saturday, 8-5.
The Lynx fall to 7-5 on the year, while the Shorthawks improve to 4-7 on the season.
Rhodes opened the scoring when
Tommy Reingruber netted a goal at the 12:33 mark. Shorter had an answer, tying the game at 1-1 with 8:24 to play in the quarter.
Jason Lee netted the next Lynx goal, to pull ahead 2-1. The Shorthawks netted a second goal to tie the contest at 2-2 before
Peter Baricev scored to close the quarter and give the Lynx a 3-2 lead at the break.
After a scoreless second quarter, the Lynx were able to find the back of the net after five unanswered Shorter goals when
Ryan Fennelly netted a
Kevin Vieira pass to pull within 7-4. To open the final quarter, Fennelly scored his second goal to pull to 8-5, but a Shorter goal to close the contest made the final count 8-5.
The Lynx were outshot by a narrow margin of 30-27, and went 13-of-14 in clears.
Thomas Matthews was in goal for the Lynx for 60 minutes, where the first0year grabbed 13 saves.
The Lynx will be back in action on April 3 when they pick up in conference play at Millsaps College.
