ATLANTA, Ga. – The Rhodes women's lacrosse team posted a big win over Southern Athletic Association foes Oglethorpe University on Saturday, 17-4.
The Lynx improve to 10-1 on the season and 5-1 in league matchups while the Petrels fall to 1-12 in 2015 and 0-7 in conference play.
The Lynx, looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season, took in out on Oglethorpe, scoring the first 11 goals of the contest. Working into the scoring column was
Morgan Fuller with three goals,
Tori Van Heyst with two scores,
Kendall Cunningham with three goals, and
Maggie Rippeto with three scores of her own to take the 11-0 lead.
The Petrels worked in two shots of their own, but Van Heyst had the last word on the half, netting the final goal of the period to take a 12-2 lead into the break.
In the second half head coach
Brice Queener's squad continued their dominance with a pair of goals from Cunningham and Rippeto to open play and grab the 14-2 lead. The Petrels netted a pair of goals between Lynx scores, but with goals from
Oliva Holmes,
Andrea Lombardi and Rippeto, the Lynx secured the 17-4 win.
Rhodes outshot its counterpart 30-20, with an impressive 27 shots on goal. The Lynx forced 24 Oglethorpe turnovers, and grabbed 23 ground balls to the Petrels 13.
Sarah Daniels got the start and the win in just over 12 minutes of play, while she grabbed three saves.
Katherine Farmer picked up 34 minutes and seven saves, while
Katherine Tooley played the final 13 minutes of action, grabbing one save.
Rhodes will be back in action on April 11 when they wrap up their home season and regular season against Hendrix College.
